About The GAME PROTOTYPING & DEVELOPMENT Course
HBCU IN LA Games 2025 is an immersive summer experience that provides the opportunity to dive into the world of game creation as you master essential skills, learn the principles of game design, and gain hands-on experience in game development.
Whether you’re a beginner or an aspiring game developer, this engaging, project-based online course introduces college students to the fundamentals of game design and development using Unity, one of the most widely used engines in the industry.
Open to students from both computer science and creative disciplines, collaborate with peers in dynamic game jams and put your newfound knowledge to the test in creative and fast-paced challenges. This course welcomes intermediate and beginners and no prior game development experience is required.



What You’ll Learn:

Core gameplay mechanics, user experience & level design
Basic C# scripting in Unity
The storytelling elements behind successful games
How to work on a dev team and prototype your own game
Insights from guest speakers working in the game industry
How to present and pitch your game to professionals
Throughout the course, students will explore the core elements of interactive game creation, including gameplay mechanics, level design, user experience, and basic scripting in C#. Emphasis will be placed on creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving as students work individually or in teams to prototype and develop an original digital game from concept to completion.
In addition to technical instruction and design guidance, the course will feature guest speakers from the gaming industry, offering insights into real-world development workflows and career pathways. The course culminates in a celebratory Industry Day and Student Showcase, where participants will present their completed games to an audience of peers, faculty, and professionals—gaining valuable feedback and exposure.
By the end of the course, students will have a completed game project, foundational Unity skills, and a portfolio piece that reflects both their technical capabilities and creative vision.

Dates: June 16 – July 18, 2025 (5 weeks)
Schedule: Mon – Thurs | 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM PST
Format: Online (Live Instruction)
Class Size: 25 max
Cost: FREE for accepted participants
Compensation: Stipend presented upon successful completion of the program
Program Requirements:

Must attend all sessions (10am–3pm PST, Mon–Thurs)
Must be on camera for the full class duration
Open to students studying Computer Science or Creative disciplines
