SCHOOL RESOURCES

Resume Readiness

Equip your students with the tools to build competitive, industry-ready resumes. This resource provides format guidelines, section-by-section guidance, downloadable samples, and final polish tips — everything you need to prepare students for the EICOP application and beyond.

A strong resume is one of the most critical components of the EICOP Internship Program application. Use the guidelines below to help your students submit competitive, industry-ready resumes.

Format & Layout

  • One page only (edit until it fits)
  • PDF format
  • Clean professional font (10–12pt text, 14–16pt headings)
  • White space for readability
  • Aligned margins and consistent spacing
  • No Photos
  • No Graphics
  • Use color sparingly

Contact Information

  • Full name (bold)
  • Phone number (cell, professional voicemail)
  • Professional email (DO NOT USE YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL)
  • LinkedIn profile (custom URL)
  • Portfolio/website link (if relevant)

Education

  • Degree(s) earned, major(s), and institution
  • Graduation year or "Expected [Year]" (required)
  • Honors or awards (if space allows)

Work Experience (Most Critical)

  • Reverse chronological order
  • Job title, company name, location, and dates
  • 3–5 bullet points per job starting with action verbs
  • Every bullet must show impact (numbers, percentages, dollar amounts)
  • Focus on results not just duties
  • Only include relevant experience

Skills

  • Hard skills relevant to the job (software, tools, languages)
  • Soft Skills — NOT ones you'd say about yourself (hardworking, good communicator)

Special Highlights (Optional)

  • Awards (include year and context)
  • Clubs or organizations (leadership roles noted)
  • Special training or certifications
  • Competitive programs you were accepted into
  • Scholarships or grants (merit-based)

Resume Samples

These samples are guides for your students — not turnkey templates. Some sections may be out of order; encourage students to adjust them based on the formatting rules outlined above.

Don't Forget

Proof & Polish

  • Spellcheck and have a real person review
  • Consistent punctuation for bullets
  • Avoid filler words
  • No passive voice
  • File name: Firstname_Lastname_Resume.pdf
  • Must be a PDF

Tailor Every Time

  • Match keywords from the job posting
  • Reorder bullet points so most relevant are first
  • Cut unrelated info

Final Gut Check

  • Can a reviewer scan it in 8 seconds and know why the student is a fit?
  • Does it print cleanly in black and white?
  • Would an industry employer hire this candidate after reading it?
