Use these tools, tips, and resources to build the most competitive application possible — and show EICOP exactly why you belong in this program.

Resume Readiness

Your resume is your first impression — and in this industry, first impressions are everything. It is also one of the most important parts of your EICOP application. One page. No exceptions. Here is how to make it count.

Make sure you include your industry-related clubs, sports teams you are on or work with, and extracurricular activities that align with your goals. It's seeing your passion for this space that will set your application apart from the others. What are you doing to seek out opportunities to feed your passion for entertainment, sports, gaming, etc.?

Format & Layout

One page only — edit until it fits. Longer resumes are disqualified.
PDF format. Always.
Clean, professional font — 10–12pt body, 14–16pt headings.
White space matters. No walls of text.
Aligned margins and consistent spacing throughout.
No photos. No graphics. Use color sparingly.

Contact Information

Full name — bold and easy to find at the top.
Cell phone number with a professional voicemail.
Professional email address — do NOT use your school email.
LinkedIn profile with a custom URL.
Portfolio or website link if relevant to the role.

Work Experience

Most recent job goes first — work backwards from there.
Only include experience that is relevant to this program.
Each role gets 3–5 bullets. Start every bullet with an action verb.
Show impact — use numbers, percentages, and real results.
Include job title, company, location, and dates (month/year).

Education

Degree(s) earned, major(s), and institution name.
Graduation year or Expected 2027 — this is required.
Skip coursework lists — use that space for something stronger.

Skills

Hard skills relevant to the job — software, tools, platforms, languages.
Soft skills only if they show up in your experience — management, leadership, cross-functional collaboration.
Do not list soft skills you would just say about yourself — hardworking, good communicator, team player. Show it, do not say it.

Special Highlights (Optional but powerful if relevant)

Awards — include year and context if not obvious.
Clubs or organizations — note any leadership roles.
Special training or certifications.
Competitive programs you were accepted into (like EICOP).
Scholarships or grants, especially merit-based ones.

Final Gut Check — Before You Submit

Is it one page?
Is it saved as a PDF?
Does it show your passion for this industry?
Did you remove every typo and grammatical error?
Is your contact info current and professional?
Would a recruiter know your industry focus in 6 seconds?

Personal Statement

Your personal statement is where your voice comes through. Here are some tips to help you write something that is honest, specific, and memorable.

Answer the actual question

Read the prompt carefully and answer exactly what is being asked. Do not write a general essay about yourself — respond to the specific question with intention.

Open with a story, not a statement

Start with a moment, a scene, or an experience that pulls the reader in. Avoid opening with "I have always been passionate about..." — show it instead.

Be specific about why EICOP

We can tell when a personal statement was written for another program and repurposed. Write this essay for EICOP — not for English Lit 101. Name the program. Name the industry. Tell us why this opportunity specifically is the right next step for you.

Connect your experience to your goals

Walk the reader from where you have been to where you are going. Your past experience should feel like evidence for why you are ready for this.

Show self-awareness

Acknowledge what you do not know yet and what you are hoping to learn. Recruiters respect candidates who know what they need to grow.

Hit the minimum — and mean it

300 words is the minimum and we do check. Applications that fall short are disqualified. That said, this is not about padding — it is about being respectful of the selection committee's time. Say what you need to say clearly, cut anything that does not add value, and make sure every sentence is doing real work.
