This Black History Month, we are celebrating history in the making, and Naomi Osaka is part of that story.
As a Haitian Japanese athlete, Naomi has redefined what global representation looks like in sports. From becoming the first Asian player to reach world No. 1 in women’s singles to using her platform to advocate for justice and mental health, her impact extends far beyond the court. A four time Grand Slam champion and one of the most dominant players of her generation, she continues to show that excellence and authenticity can exist side by side.
Naomi made history as the first Japanese player to win a major singles title and later as the first tennis player to light the Olympic cauldron at the Tokyo Games. Her powerful style of play changed the game, while her openness about identity, wellness, and social responsibility changed the culture around it.
During her US Open championship run, Naomi honored Black lives on one of the world’s biggest stages, transforming each match into a moment of remembrance and resistance. In doing so, she reminded us that being an athlete also means having the courage to stand firmly in your values.
This is what history in the making looks like. A Haitian Japanese icon whose influence continues to break barriers, expand representation, and redefine leadership in sports and beyond.
At EICOP, we see this same potential every day. Students learning to lead with purpose, amplify their voices, and build futures rooted in both excellence and impact.
Because Black history is not just something we remember. It is something we continue to create.

This Black History Month, we are celebrating history in the making, and @cocojones is part of that story.
From lighting up our screens as a breakout star in Let It Shine to commanding some of the biggest stages in music and culture, Coco represents a generation of Black artists who refused to be defined by a single moment. Her journey is one of evolution, resilience, and purpose.
A Grammy Award winner, BET Award recipient, and NAACP Image Award winner, Coco’s return to music reshaped her career. Her platinum-certified hit “ICU” earned Best R&B Performance at the 66th Grammy Awards, alongside multiple nominations including Best New Artist. On screen, her portrayal of Hilary Banks in @belairpeacock showed her range, depth, and staying power as an actress.
This year, performing the Black National Anthem at the Super Bowl, Coco stood at the intersection of culture, legacy, and excellence. Not just reflecting history, but contributing to it in real time.
This is what history in the making looks like. Black talent growing, evolving, and stepping into moments that once felt out of reach, while creating paths for what comes next.
We see this same trajectory every day. Students preparing, refining their craft, and positioning themselves to become the next artists, executives, and leaders shaping entertainment and culture.
Because the next chapter of Black history is being written now. And today’s talent is already setting the standard for tomorrow.

Black history is not just something we learn. It is something we watch, share, and carry forward.
This month, @Netflix is spotlighting powerful films and series that bring the stories of Shirley Chisholm, Bayard Rustin, Madam C.J. Walker, Harriet Tubman, and many more to life. These are stories of leadership, resistance, creativity, and courage that continue to shape the world we live in today.
We believe the next generation of storytellers and decision-makers will come from the same communities whose history we are celebrating now. Today’s students will be tomorrow’s producers, executives, and creators shaping what stories get told.
When we say Support HBCU Futures, we mean investing in the people who will carry these legacies forward and make history of their own.

This Black History Month, we are celebrating history in the making, and @Jabaribanks is part of that story.
From connecting with HBCU IN LA students behind the scenes to stepping into one of the most iconic roles in television history, Jabari represents a new generation of Black storytellers shaping what legacy looks like in real time.
@belairpeacock did more than reboot a sitcom. It reimagined a cultural classic for a new era, proving that our stories can evolve, deepen, and still honor where we came from. Sharing the screen in a defining moment alongside Will Smith, Jabari did not just play a role. He stepped into a lineage.
This is what history in the making looks like. Young Black talent carrying legacy forward while creating something entirely their own.
At EICOP, we see this every day. Students preparing, learning, and positioning themselves to be the next creators, executives, and leaders who redefine industries. The next chapter of Black history is being written now in classrooms, on sets, in boardrooms, and through programs that invest in our futures.
When we say Support HBCU Futures, we mean supporting the pipeline of talent that will shape culture, business, and storytelling for generations to come.
Because today’s students are tomorrow’s history makers.
